Farewell Redneckus!
andy Chapin (aka Redneckus) was a good man. He was 35 years old and had struggled for a little under 2 years with a serious lung condition that required him to be on oxygen 24 hrs a day. He always kept his head up and faced things straight on. We had hoped that a lung transplant might be done but time was not on his side and on July 2, 1999 Randy passed away. He was survived by his parents, brother, sister, and many friends.
Redneckus was a Grandmaster Buccaneer indeed. Many a person at sea cursed his name due to their encounters with him. He was a fearless foe and the staunchest ally one could ask for. Whether ya loved him or hated him ya had ta respect him. His sailing skills were second to none, the sea was his home. I remember once during a shipboard hunting trip we wuz trading arrows and spells with a couple fellas on shore. They challenged for some of us to come on land. Redneckus proceeded to strip down to a pair of boots and his sword. He hopped on shore and proceeded to chase them returning to ship shortly thereafter having dispatched one of his foes and turning just a lil red. Course with a name like that what can ya expect? He loved pulling up to someone's ship and yelling "Stand and Deliver, or the Devil He Will Take You!!". Redneckus will be sorely missed by his guildmates and friends, and we will never forget him. The Buccaneers of Catskills would like to have an in-game memorial service for him at the Jolly Roger Inn. Redneckus wasn't very mobile over the past 6 months or so, and he gained much enjoyment from playing UO and had a grand time in the United Pirates events. |

On Sunday August 8th, a memorial was held in the Red Skull Bay near the Jolly Roger Inn of the United Pirates. The guildmates and friends of Redneckus, and the pirates gathered at the shore, set a boat on fire and sent it with Redneckus' ghost out onto the sea. They sadly saluted to their old friend, watching the burning ship slowly disappear on the horizon... |
