Taking Revenge
while ago, the Guild of Freedom
had organized a caravan to sell a large collection of all kind of wares. As I was told afterwards, the caravan had started
out in Britain and taken the road towards Minoc to sell the goods to passers-by and travelers. They were 3 merchants and 4
guards, well equipped with magic items, weapons and other wares. I was just fighting a bunch of Orcs near the guild tower,
when a messenger on horseback approached. Sweating and breathless he jumped off his horse and gasped:
"Quick, come! The caravan needs thy help! They have just been attacked in the swamps south-west from here."
I left the orcs by themselves and ran off at once. Soon I reached the swamp, but could not discover any caravan. Everywhere
I saw the traces of combat and murder: Bolts, corpses, blood. A cold shiver ran down my back.
As I was just standing there and pondering, when suddenly two murderers armed with heavy crossbows appeared. They immediately attacked me. As I knew these deadly weapons just too well, I ran like hell. Unfortunately ,I was still weakened by my last battle against the Orcs, so they caught up quickly. Suddenly, a bolt hit me in the back and I fell to the ground. With my greyed vision I recognized the evil grimaces of Dread Lord Strife and Sir Pain bowing over my dying body, looting my possessions.

After I got resurrected by the Shrine of Compassion, I went back to the guild tower. There I met what was left of the caravan:
Five members of the guild had been looted and lost every weapon and equipment. They told me the rest of the story:
The returning caravan had been ambushed in the middle of the swamp, right after defeating four ratmen. The two criminals
(the same murderers who had killed me afterwards) shook up the whole caravan, slaying almost everybody. They also robbed all the
merchants's wares and equipment.
The story was diappointing and ridiculous at the same time, so I couldn't help laughing. Only two killers had taken out
a caravan of seven people, most of them armed and well-equipped. Incredible! However, we had all learned our lesson and we
decided to do things differently next time.

While we were outside the tower discussing the incident, suddenly another murderer appeared. Seeing us in our simple dresses thought we were an easy prey and attacked us at once with his heavy crossbow. Full of anger and rage I ran after him and shouted at him. I wanted nothing more than the murderer Mathrim Cauthon's head!

My guild mates joined in and we pursued the murderer, who now was running from us! I equipped my halberd and attacked the dread lord. He tried to hide several times, but I was able to discover him. Finally he stopped running to aim for a shot, when I swung my halberd and delivered the final blow. He collapsed and fell to the ground, dead. Compassion had won, this time! I took his dress and his head and we retreated into our tower.
After hunting him for quite some time he finally came to halt in front of me. This was my chance to take revenge! "Now you will pay for thine deeds!" I shouted and swung my halberd at him. My friends had weakened him before, so he collapsed after a few of my blows. My compassionate thirst for vengeance had been satisfied, and I took the head and his dress from his dying body.

Back in the tower, I showed everyone my trophy, the head and the dress. We all felt a relief as we had followed our base motive and taken revenge. We decided to the loot from the murderer's body to the wares of the next caravan.

We celebrated our success and drank a little too much of the good Britannian ale. Until late at night we were talking, singing and drinking. Then we all sank down into a deep and peaceful slumber.
