Fiendish Friends
ince his last visit, McBykar had wondered what was at the end of the Sanctuary Dungeon. Today was the day he would try to find out. McBykar only needed one more spell to complete his Spellweaving Book: The Summon Fiend spell. Rumors had been spread that the scroll - just like the Summon Fey scroll - could only be acquired through a quest. The questgiver was said to be found at the end of the Sanctuary dungeon. Together with a fellow adventurer McBykar entered the Sanctuary. Both were mounted; an absolute necessity to get past the Titans, Changelings, Ratman Archers and Ogre Lords. McBykar knew that the only chance to reach the end of the dungeon was to make a run for it and hope to survive. The arcane spell "Gift of Renewal" was very helpful here, as it was constantly healing damage that was dealt to the Arcanist for a short time.
They reached the Elvish garden damaged, but alive. The quest giver, Elder Brae the Wise, was found quickly. He assigned them their first task: Slaying 50 imps.
Although the task wasn't very difficult, it took some time to complete it. A lot of imps could be found in a valley by the Shrine of Justice in Ilshenar. McBykar tried Energy Vortices, but then he preferred the Nature's Fury spell, as he didn't fail that much casting it and the bees were not that easy to dispell.
When he finally was finished, McBykar returned to the Sanctuary. On his ethereal horse he was flying past the Ratman arrows, Orgre Lord hits adn Titan spells again, reaching the end of the dungeon with not much life energy left. Again, Gift of Renewal had saved his life.
Elder Brae's next task was finding a stout whip. After asking around McBykar found out that it could be found on Orc Captains or Orc Lords. He traveled to the nearby Yew Orc Fort and killed a few dozens of Orcs before he finally found the whip on one of the corpses.
Again, he took the deadly passage through Sanctuary to the Elves' refuge, just to receive the next task: Killing an Arcane Daemon.
From a previous trip he knew that Arcane Daemons could be found near the entrance to the Exodus Dungeon. So McBykar travelled to the Shrine of Compassion in Ilshenar and headed south. This task proved to be the most dangerous. Not because of the Arcane Daemon himself, but because of all the creatures and Paragons populating the vicinity of Exodus Dungeon. McBykar had to be very careful and slay a lot of monsters before he could finally defeat the Daemon.
One last time McBykar had to do the Sanctuary death-run. Elder Brae was satisfied and handed over the desired Spellweaving scroll. Now McBykar had not only reached the grandmaster level of Spellweaving due to tireless training, but he also owned a complete Spellweaving spellbook.
