The Admiral's Cup
awkeye Pike had called all skilled mariners of Britannia to join the Admiral's Cup and prove their sailing and navigation skills. He had prepared a route along several check points, which would lead the participants from the Jolly Roger Inn all around Britannia and back again. Having sailed this course before, the pirate knew it would take the fastest mariner approximately one hour to return to the starting point.
Before the race started, the check points were shown to all who had come, and books describing the route were handed out.
Pike had placed a communication crystal at each check point and linked it to an individual receiver. When a mariner passed the check points, he only had to shout a greeting to prove that he'd been there. Mostly the boat commands were transmitted, which also was prove enough.
The receiving crystals were placed at the Jolly Roger Inn, so the pirate could see exactly who passed which station.
The result of the boat race was astonishing. Back in the Early Days, the seafaring folk of Britannia seemed to be much more skilled than today. People obviously did not use boats anymore. That explained why the winner was Benjamin Redeye, one pirate who had returned from the days of old. He made it in 1 hour 23 minutes. He was followed by Renneb (1:31) and Sigfried McGreed (2:11). One landlubber got totally lost, sank his ship and capitulated. Another participant hadn't reached Buccaneer's Den yet after 2 hours and also resigned.
It was clear that seafaring adventures were not at all popular in Britannia. People used traveling spells while boats had become highly unpopular.
To motivate people to sail by boat again, Hawkeye Pike had set up some seafaring quests in the United Pirates library in the Jolly Roger Inn. These quests will send anyone who is adventurous enough on more or less challenging journeys. There they can improve their sailing skills and their knowledge about the oceans of Britannia.
