Clippers and Stains

ndrej Pike had been a man of handicraft ever since he could remember. When the new lands of Ter Mur had been discovered, new items were unveiled that would allow people to dye not only clothing, but almost anything else. Andrej was naturally interested into learning that art, especially since he knew that plants were involved, and he had gained some experience with plant growing already in a previous adventure. He researched and digged through old libraries until he finally figured out how these dyes could be made. The process is described here:

1. Decorative plants were needed. Andrej had a couple of them stored away and dug them out. As he was a skilled Tinkerer too, he was able to make the required Clippers to clip those plants.
2. Clipping a plant would consume it and produce some plant clippings in the respective hue of that plant. Andrej produced clippings of plain, orange, red and green plants.
3. In order to make a color fixative, he needed venom vials. As Andrej Pike had learned the art of Glassblowing, he quickly dug up some quality sand from the beach in front of his house and grabbed his blow pipe, which he had bought a long time ago in Ver Lor Reg in Ilshenar.
4. With the blowpipe and the sand, he was able to produce a number of venom vials to collect silver serpent venom in.

5. Andrej instructed Pete, who had sneaked through the Abyss long enough to find his way, to visit the Stygian Abyss dungeon and search for Silver Serpents. This was no problem at all for Pete. He found the serpents quickly, and he had brought a snake charmer flute which he had bought from a musician a while ago. By charming the snakes and using the venom vials, Pete was able to milk two portions of silver serpent venom from each creature.
6. Pete also figured out that when killing the serpents, sometimes he would find another portion of venom in their corpses.
7. Andrej was also familiar with the Alchemy skill. Thus the craftsman used his mortar and the ingredients silver serpent venom and bottles of wine, to mix a color fixative. The alchemist also created pigments from the plant clippings and some empty bottles. All this can also be done with the Cooking skill.
8. Upon using the color fixative, he managed to mix the color fixative and the pigments into natural dye. He knew that pigments could also be mixed to achieve different hues of color, but Andrej would look into that at a later time. Now he finally could dye the books in the pirate library!
