Pete the Mystic
ete Ninefinger stepped through the moongate and found himself by the east gate of the Royal City in Ter Mur. He had heard that a mystic's shoppe could be found near the market place where the Soul Forge was located. He had no trouble finding it. Now he would learn the skill of Mysticism! He paid a small fee to the shopkeeper and received some basic training. He also bought a Mysticism spellbook and four low-level spell scrolls. Pete was ready to begin!
After wandering through Ter Mur for a while, he discovered the Queen's Palace in the center of the Royal City and entered. Two storeys above he found a large balcony with a beautiful view over the city. This was the perfect place to start his training! Wearing an old suit that lowered his reagent cost to zero, he began to cast away. He tried to turn himself into stone, which seemed to be a quite useful spell for tight situations. When he succeeded, he noticed that his resists had increased by several points. He also learned that he now was resistant against poison and bleed attacks.
When his skill had reached a higher level, it was time to go out into the wild and test his abilities on living creatures. Bouras seemed to be a good choice, as they would supply him with an occasional boura pelt, which he would need anyway to have some good armor crafted. Pete Ninefinger left Ter Mur through the small gate to the north-east of the city and headed north towards the High Plains. There he tried to slow the Bouras down by casting a sleep spell, and then tried to damage them by throwing big rocks towards them.
Many hours he spent in this area, until he finally was able to cast the Hail Storm spell. This spell would damage several creatures at a time, but it was also very difficult to correctly utter the words of power. Pete had collected many boura pelts at that time, probably more than he needed for having a complete suit imbued.
Two days later, Pete Ninefinger already felt more powerful. Standing on the veranda of the Jolly Roger Inn, he watched the sea and cast an occasional Nether Cyclone. He spent a lot of time here, and he felt much more at home than in the woods of Ter Mur. Grav Hur. Grav Hur. Grav Hur. He began to meditate to restore his mana. While preparing for the next round of spells, he wondered how effective these spells would be against human enemies.
It was done! Pete was now Grandmaster Mystic! Since he planned to cast spells and wield a fencing weapon at the same time, special equipment was required. Andrej crafted him the weapon of his choice, which was a war fork. Then Pete consulted Sambal Dragor, who was a legendary artificer. Sambal knew what to do. The artificer visited the Queen's Soul Forge and imbued a weapon any spellcaster would dream of. When he was finished, he called it the "Mystic's Hexfork of Elements".
When the weapon was finished, Pete also needed armor that would not only enable him to cast spells without needing reagents. He also had to solve the problem that it was impossible to have both high dexterity for fast swings, and high intelligence for lots of mana. He had Andrej Pike, legendary tailor, make him some armor out of barbed leather. However, imbuing the pieces correctly was the most difficult task. A lot of rare resources were needed, and when the work was finally done after several days, Pete Ninefinger was satisfied. He picked up a nice spell channeling shield from his stash, bought a Pendant of the Magi necklace, and put on some good jewelry he found in one of the chests. It was time to test his abilities!
His friend Aneirin from the United Pirates crew volonteered to fight him. Aneirin was most skilled with his bow, so Pete had to be careful. It took a couple of training fights before he figured out which spells would be most effective, and when to cast them. But he was quite happy with the result, as Aneirin could not always kill him within 10 seconds. Pete sure had to continue working on his skills and his combat timing.
