Killed by an Ettin

I feel ashamed about the story I have to tell you now, because this day I overestimated my abilities.

Convinced of the mishap last day was just bad luck, I was once again lurking through the shrubs of the Yew forest, when suddenly I ran into a Gargoyle. I had never seen such a beast before, and as I attacked it I just learned that it had magic abilities. My skill of resisting spells was not very well trained, so I ran away as soon as I had lost half of my life energy. Fortunately, a knight on a horse came along and helped me killing the gargoyle.

After exchanging a few words, we both went seperate ways again. After a while I stood before a strange looking tree. I never had seen a tree like this before. Suddenly, the strong branches of the tree reached down and clenched me. It was a Reaper!!! I raised my sword and hacked at this bewitched monster plant with all my power, while the tree hit me hard with its branches and cast spells at me. It was a dangerous fight. Finally the reaper collapsed with a gurgling noise. I had defeated it!

Today, the woods seemed infested with all kinds of dangerous monsters. I hardly had recovered from my last fight when an Ettin broke through the brushwood and attacked me. I managed to hide at once, and I was lucky to do so as another unknown monster joined it. I later would learn that it was a Gazer. From my safe hiding spot I watched the two ceratures. Suddenly something happened I had heard rumors about, but never believed it was true: The two monsters suddenly started to attack one another. The Ettin treated the Gazer with his mighty axe, while the Gazer cast strange spells at the Ettin. After a while, the Gazer was weakened more than the Ettin. I decided to wait until the Ettin had killed the Gazer, then attack the injured Ettin and loot both monsters. No sooner said than done.

After the Ettin had looted the Gazer's corpse, I attacked it. Unfortunately I had underestimated the strength of the ettin, or overestimated my own fighting skill. The two-headed monster hit me three times and I was close to death, while I missed several times with my sword. I finally turned to run, when it hit me one more time and I was dead. Angry and frustrated I watched the greedy Ettin looting my corpse, taking my armor, weapon and shield. Again, I had to walk all the way to the healer of Yew. It was the second time in the last two days I was wandering about as a ghost, and I was feeling miserable! I'd have to be much more careful in the future. It is better to hide and survive.

The healer finished his job, and when I finally returned to my corpse I only found my backpack lying on the ground, with my helmet and some useless stuff in it.
