Exploring Covetous

Heavy raindrops fell down from the clouded sky. Hawkeye Pike gazed into the black hole in the rocks, while water was dripping down from the rim of his tricorne. "At least we won't get wet in dere" he muttered, and the three pirates equipped their weapons and shields.
The Gods of Britannia had changed the dungeons, and the curiosity about hidden treasures and magic items finally made the pirates enter the black hole.
Equipped with lots of bandages to heal each other they proceeded through the first caves. Lots of harpies were flinging themselves on the pirates, screeching angrily at the intruders. The flames of a weak campfire reflected from the blades of these swashbucklers and made them gleam faintly in the darkness. Soon this cave was cleaned from its threat, and they dove deeper into the dungeon.

They sometimes hurt their sandaled feet on the treacherous floor traps, but these did not really harm them, same as some headless which were slain with few hits.
Down in the second level of Covetous they came past a lake. Several gazers attacked them with spells, when suddenly a strange elder gazer floated towards them and staring at them greedily with its single eye. The elder gazer did not last long against the three pirates, but it cast one dangerous spell after another, proving its magic abilities and the big amount of mana.
Soon they found the entrance to the next level, and as they entered a strange hollow voice of unknown origin echoed from the dungeon walls, saying: "Beware ye who enter these halls!" The pirates shivered, but proceeded. A few liches were quickly slain, and as they passed another pair of statues the voice whispered again. "Go no farther, lest ye face thy death!"
The company headed northwest, when they found some stairs leading down into darkness. They descended, finding the guardian of the ancient torture chambers of Covetous: A rotten corpse. It immediately attacked John LaFoot, while Lance Hawthorne and Hawkeye Pike were treating it with their blades. This evil creature poisoned John with deadly venom, but fortunately Hawkeye was able to cure this poison with his bandages.
The battle against this undead monster lasted about 45 minutes, during which Hawkeye cured John several times from the poison. Finally they delivered the deadly blow and the corpse collapsed moaning. Adventurer, bring a silver weapon if you dost fight these guardians from hell!
The pirates opened the prison door and entered. They passed the iron barred doors of the cells until they reached the torture chamber. A guillotine and an iron maiden were only some of the reminders of horrible scenes that must have taken place down here. The two mummies lurking through the prison were slain quickly.
After a while they retreated and walked upstairs again, to explore the east wing of this place. They finally found a room guarded by liches, and many spells were hailing down on Hawkeye, while his comrades took care of his health. After the threat was besieged, they entered a chamber full of barrels and boxes.
Lance Hawthorne could not hold back his curiosity, lifted carefully the lids of the boxes and peeked inside. Suddenly he was enveloped into a poisonous cloud, and he quickly coughed and threw up, looking pale like death himself. Then he set off an explosion trap and was blown off his feet immediately. Fortunately Hawkeye Pike was able to bring his ghost back to the living. Curiosity can be deadly in a dungeon like this.
As the went back, the doors behind them were suddenly locked. Nobody of them die neither have lockpicks with them nor did they know how to magically unlock the doors. Fortunately a mage opened the door for them, and they could proceed.
Later Hawkeye met with Dead Eye, and the two went down to the lowest and most dangerous level of Covetous. The stairs in the northeast brought them to the place where drakes live! Healing each other they slain several of these creatures. Other adventures said that the more dangerous dragon would show up every now and then, but the two pirates did not meet it.

After a long and strenuous trip the men of the sea finally returned to the bank in the save city, storing away their newly gained riches into the bank boxes.
