Britannia's Future Spellweavers
t was a sunny afternoon when a group of riders appeared by the Shrine of Compassion in Ilshenar. McBykar had agreed to assist some fellows from the Gentle Rest Inn guild with their final task of the Spellweaving quest. His friend, Talis Moonbeam, had joined in as well. The object was to slay a number of Exodus Minions and Overseers. McBykar knew exactly what to do, as he had finished this quest some time ago, when he had decided to learn the Ways of the Arcanist.
The group was officially lead by Azura Bleu of the GRI guild, who was riding some kind of wolf creature. The young spellweaver apprentices were Leila, Aredhel and a guy with the rather uncommon name of "I Make Em Fight". Once they entered the Central Area of Ilshenar, McBykar started to explain how to avoid the entrance area of Lord Blackthorn's Castle, as it was often frequented by Paragon Golems and other dangerous creatures. Before he could finish the sentence, the group had left already. "Hopefully not to their doom," McBykar thought. He preferred to pass by the castle on the opposite side of its entrance.
Luckily the junior spellweavers reached the Exodus Dungeon unharmed. They entered quickly. Azura Bleu lead the way to the Exodus Minions.
One by one the Minions were pulled to the group. Those, who wanted to fulfill the quest tasks, had to kill the creatures. McBykar only watched their backs, killing some evil Overseers every now and then to keep the group safe. However, even though he and other assisting friends permanently cast powerful healing spells, it was hardly possible to keep them alive. McBykar noticed that they were quite inexperienced in fighting.
While McBykar always willingly assisted other adventurers who needed help, he thought that what happened here did not really match his philosohpy of gaining knowledge. To him, it had been important that he was able finish the spellweaving quest by himself. To have the required fighting skill, to explore the surroundings, to learn about the characteristics of the area before running to a place he did not know. Otherwise he would not have felt worthy of calling himself an Arcanist. First things first! He did have an exciting time finding things out by himself, advancing slowly, step by step. If someone would have handed him everything on a silver platter, it would have spoiled his fun.
Nevertheless the young spellweavers were happy to have finally reached their goal. McBykar was glad he had been able to help them a little. They returned to New Haven safely. While he said good bye wishing them good luck, he secretly wondered if they would try to achieve the missing spellweaving scrolls by themselves, or if they would just receive them from their guild as a present...
