United Pirates Pub Brawl

n April 12th, the United Pirates organized their first event after their return. And it would not be the last! The Pub Brawl, a fighting contest, was held in the United Pirates headquarters, the Jolly Roger Inn. The place had been refurnished specifically for this event by Hawkeye Pike. Unfortunately, not many people showed up, but the brawl was a lot of fun nevertheless. The rules were quite simple:
This competition was meant to determine each participant's skill and fighting strategy, and not who had the best equipment and artifacts. Thus, leather armor and weapons of grandmaster quality had been prepared by Hawkeye Pike. He had arranged 2 of each weapon type in existence, even bows and crossbows. (However, no archer did attend.) The fighters had to remove their own armorm jewelry and talismans, and put on the prepared armor. They were allowed to use all the abilities of their skills and any potions, bandages, spells and reagents of their liking.

Each fighter had to duel each. The two fighters with the most victories would have to face each other for the final match. The fights proved to be most entertaining and interesting. The participants, Laurana, Nickcali Wolfen, Norrar Swordhand and Hawkeye Pike himself, all used different combat techniques. Nickcali was a most skilled Samurai with excellent Bushido techniques, evading most of the blows. When Hawkeye Pike first had to face him, he could not land a single hit and was quickly defeated. Norrar had the most interesting strategy: He switched weapons during the fight, using Bleeding Attack, Infectuous Strike and Disarm to confuse his opponent. Also he dropped conflagration and explosion potions, messing up the tavern and hassling his foe.

Hawkeye Pike was born an assassin, and thus he applied deadly poison to his dagger, threw explosion potions whenever his opponent tried to run, and used Shadow Strike in critical situations.

Laurana utilized Chivalry and Parrying abilities, but it seemed that not being able to use her original equipment (i.e. jewelry) resulted in having too few mana in order to utilize her skills to the full extent.

The Pub Brawl proved to be quite a lot of fun for both the participants and the spectators! The fights lasted for about an hour, although only 4 fighters had come. The most interesting and the longest fight was the one between Norrar Swordhand and Hawkeye Pike. Both fighters were at the brink of death several times, but managed to heal themselves back each time. Norrar disarmed Hawkeye, who then seemed a little bewildered, before he re-equipped his dagger and vanished in the hiding while healing himself. However, Norrar threw an explosion, so Hawkeye quickly tried to stealth around him, getting secretly into his back an poisoning him deadly. Norrar poisoned Hawkeye as well, but with normal poison, thus disturbing Hawkeye's healing sequence. Hawkeye countered with a lethal poison strike. This fight lasted several minutes before the winner was finally determined.

In the final match, Nickcali and Hawkeye had to face each other again. Both had won two times and only lost once. Hawkeye hid immediately after the starting signal, sneaked behind Nickcali, tried to poison him and missed! Nickcali's Bushido abilities to block an attack were excellent! After a spectacular fight, Hawkeye finally could defeat a practically equally skilled opponent. Hawkeye Pike won the prize money of 45,000 gold pieces. However, he would safe the gold for the next events.

When the Pub Brawl was over, all insisted to repeat some of the fights with each one's favorite equipment. During those fights one thing became very clear: Fighting strategy and combat tactics, as well as a good timing, counted much more than equipment! All agreed that this event was a success, and similar events should follow soon!
