How to Organize Your House

Most of us house owners sooner or later run into a fatal storage problem. Even though you already purchased a 20% storage increase, your house is crammed under the roof and you can't find a thing. You know you have some good gear somewhere, but after 30 minutes of searching, you give up. I managed to get a grip on my storage problems a year ago. It took me a few hours to sort all the items, but now it is perfect! I want to share my solution, that has absolutely proven itself, with the willing reader:

Rule #1: Throw out all junk!
A lot of people just have difficulties throwing away things. But things you never used and probably never will use, are a waste of storage and are a load on your mind. Get rid of them without mercy! Smelt them, salvage them, unravel them, dump them! I promise, you won't miss them once they're gone.

Rule #2: Only keep the best!
You have 20 good swords stored away? I tell you, you'll only need 5 of them, or less! Keep the 5 best items and sell or smelt the rest. One sword for PvM, one for PvP, one spell channeling weapon and maybe 2 slayer weapons. That's all you ever going to need. You have 20 Lower Reagent Cost bracelets? Keep only the 5 best! If you get new items, never ADD them to your storage, but use them to REPLACE other items that are not that good.

Rule #3: Make sure you find your things!
Organize your stuff in containers in a way that you will easily find them again. Use containers with different colors. Use bags inside these containers to group your items. Put an item under each bag that gives you a clue of what's inside it.

Here's an example of how I ogranized my items. The clue is that all containers inside this room can be reached and opened from one spot in the centre. The colors give me a hint of what's inside:

Take a peek into my containers! As you can see, items are organized in bags with different color. Beneath each bag you can see one item that shows me what's inside that bag. Need a Ninjitsu ring, a one-handed fencing Dragon slayer weapon, or a level 3 treasure map? I'll find them in 3 seconds.

Three special containers I use to store blacksmithing ressources (hammers, ingots) or items for daily use (recall scrolls, bandages, pet food) in. I only have one container where I quickly dump items I don't want to sort away (for example, because I need them again soon, or I have no time to sort/store them). This way, I never run into the problem that I have a dozen boxes full of crap.

Even a small house can be organized well without destroying the house decoration. There are many ways to make a house look nice, even if it is mostly used for storage. Like this Smuggler's Shed from the United Pirates on Catskills:
