The Stygian Dragon

he group of five gathered in the great hall in front of an altar, somewhere in the middle of the Stygian Abyss Dungeon. A lot of the creatures outside the hall had been slain, and several Draconic Orbs had been gathered. Four of the orbs were placed on the altar, and thus two mages, two archers and the tamer was granted access to the lair of what was probably the most dangerous creature of Sosoria: The Stygian Dragon.

A magic gate took them into a big chamber filled with treasure. However, the riches were magically locked down so the adventurers were not able to pick them up to fill their pockets. Apart from that, the hall was empty. The group began to cast protective spells and put arrows on the strings, when they suddenly heard a deep roar behind them. A gigantic dragon with silvery gleaming scales and a horned head appeared and approached the intruders.

A long and fierce battle against the beast from the Abyss began. The fighters shot countless arrows, cast offensive and healing spells without a pause, and the Greater Dragon pet was no match against the Stygian Dragon. The inhabitant of the lair however did not hesitate to offer resistance. His fire breath took almost all life energy from the fighters, he switched targets all the time, flew over obstacles and let fire rain from the sky. The ground was shaking, the walls were burning.

The fight lasted a long time. The Stygian Dragon seemed to be more vulnerable to cold and energy damage. Everyone of the group had died several times, but thanks to an ankh in a small chamber by the north wall, resurrection was not an issue. Some of the fighters were rewarded with gargoyle artifacts, one received the head of the Stygian Dragon. This battle really was an experience to remember.
